So I have now secured a contract and the contract has been signed by both parties. Due to start work on Monday. It's been a long slow process and now just before I start I have been told my the agency that prior to going on site I have to go into the office or have a skype training call with one of their legal department because they need need to read me out something that the client has asked them to read out...I asked if they could not just do it over the phone and they said they have to see my face....wtf. What the hell is this all about, is this normal? Surely this isnt the client or is it some sort of new agency trick. What has the legal department got to do with my contract which has now been signed by both parties. Confused!

Does it matter? You've got a contract. Stop panicking about everything.…Maybe we ain’t that young anymore -
Well yes it does, its a pain in the arse especially when it might not be necessary and its just the agency playing games and a waste of time especially when relocating.Originally posted by WTFH View PostDoes it matter? You've got a contract. Stop panicking about everything.Comment

You run your own business now, if feel that strongly you can always tell them to do one.Originally posted by Dougie800 View PostWell yes it does, its a pain in the arse especially when it might not be necessary and its just the agency playing games and a waste of time especially when relocating.
Obviously, the ultimate risk, here, is you could delay the start date or lose the contract completely.
Hopefully you will start a thread, prior to starting on Monday, as undoubtedly you will need help deciding what colour shoes to wear

Perhaps he's not one of those types that'll sign anything put in front of them without question, for the money. How often are people berated for not having read their contract, or not having it reviewed, or agreeing to terms they don't understand?Originally posted by northernladuk View Post<place holder for when he gets on site and has to make a decision whether to sign the H&S and IT policy Docs and has no access to CUK thread>
It's galling when clients like to impose additional terms after contract sign-off. No I don't mean H&S and IT policy, I mean "Contractor Agreement", "Temporary Worker Agreement", or anything else that potentially stomps on your IR35 reviewed contract, then act like you're the difficult one.
Why does it need to be via Skype? Perhaps they intend to record the call as legal acceptance.
In answer to the OP:
Is this normal? - Not in my experience.
Is it an agency trick? - Could be. Or it could just be incompetence.
I would ask for the text by email - "because I've been advised not to go on site without seeing it" - not an unreasonable request IMHO.Comment

It may make sense depending on the company, certain companies are more restrictive on how they vet and share IP etc. Bank or pharmas it's understandable, others probably not.Originally posted by Dougie800 View PostSo I have now secured a contract and the contract has been signed by both parties. But like everyone has said - you either do it and start on Monday
or don't and get potential get your contract cancelled.
