    Good question. I'd agree it's not something to be done lightly and without a good feel for the situation.

    However for what it's worth, I've done exactly this and as a result a year later landed the best rate of my contracting career so far. Client direct and using my own contract and ToB. Quite why I linked and quite why I then followed up a year later does not make sense even to me! The guy was a cat-1, power-tripping, a-hole. I nearly walked on day-3 of the contract. Since then he got fired. Currently in talks with the new management with a view to extend to what will be almost a year.
