On the two occasions client gave me a mobile I returned it in the unopened box and the SIM card still attached in this kind of credit card on my last day.
It is perfectly normal and no IR35 risk to use client's laptop/PC if they have security concerns using your own, banks would never allow.Comment

TOTALLY disagree. Its easy to come on a forum and say I dont let client say this, or do that, I'm important I am and client should know it.
Quite another when client comes up with a REASONABLE request and you tell him to do one - which I doubt in reality you would do. Yes fair enough tell client, umm no thanks tell you what I'll just use my own phone and see what they say.
BTW - I knew a contractor who had the biggest nackers you'd ever see. Would put some of you to shame. If it wasn't in the contract, he'd refuse, if they wanted a form filling in he'd refuse, if they asked him to help one of the perms out he'd refuse. One example where it is worth sticking to it.
I do remote work from home sometimes for client. Out of hours stuff mostly - like checking something in the evening. No obligation to do this but its easy enough.
So they got me a laptop (crap heavy one mind) to use from home. They're security policy says only their kit for remote access- fair enough. Then some permie pointed out I had a desktop in the office AND a laptop but company policy was only one device so they tried to make me choose. Permies have to.
So I told them, hang on, if I have a laptop I aint lugging it back and fore on the train every day. Also, I remote into my desktop from home. So I said tell you what I'll have a desktop only then but you'll need to get someone else to do the remote stuff. Or you make an exception because I'm not a permie.
So they did. Of course, if they said have this mobile phone I'd say ok then it could also stay home with the laptop.
Point being lugging a laptop because they had stupid permie rules would be hassle for me. Taking a mobile off and never using it would be no hassle.Rhyddid i lofnod psychocandy!!!!Comment
