No.. No one pays agencies.. In fact. Paying to find work. Isn't that illegal?Originally posted by WTFH View PostYou mean you're a permie too?'CUK forum personality of 2011 - Winner - Yes really!!!!

I apparently don't, but I do differentiate between a white van man and an IT support worker doing work that is no different from a permanent member of staff which is the majority of contractors I've encountered and what I'm doing at the moment. I'm sure there are exceptions, but I rather doubt they're in sufficient numbers to justify the rules.Originally posted by SueEllen View PostI shall tell my builder that. Yes he does subcontract work out but so do I.
You really don't have a clue about UK law. We in knowledge industries are incorporated because there is no other way we can work with agencies or medium/large consultancies otherwise.
I've also had yet to have someone tell me they wouldn't engage because I wasn't an Ltd. so I'm not getting how that's a requirement. Certainly social workers don't do the ltd thing; it's not even an option as far as I'm aware.Last edited by seanraaron; 9 March 2016, 10:17.Comment

Agencies and clients won't work with sole traders as the tax liabilities can be passed on so it's LTD or Umbrella... The more you post the more you show you don't understand.'CUK forum personality of 2011 - Winner - Yes really!!!!

Well I thought that was clear since you graced my initial post concerning issues with my umbrella.Originally posted by northernladuk View PostWhy are you even on these boards? You don't have the first clue what you are talking about, you are new through a brolly, you are not a contractor as you have already admitted you'll just take anything, permie or contract and appear to be a bit of an around pillock to boot. You are just a floater getting by. Why do you even bother posting?
Mostly it's something to do, kind of like contract work.
And I have an umbrella; seems the ltd tent is maybe too big and they need to change the law to accommodate contractors without all the fiction.Comment

Thats why you're using a brolly, try and see if the agency will take you on as a sole trader.Originally posted by seanraaron View PostI apparently don't, but I do differentiate between a white van man and an IT support worker doing work that is no different from a permanent member of staff which is the majority of contractors I've encountered and what I'm doing at the moment. No, I get that, I just don't see why Ltd company status is still required, or even an umbrella. It all seems a bit much just to do contract work in IT; especially if it has side effects the govt don't like.Originally posted by SlipTheJab View PostThats why you're using a brolly, try and see if the agency will take you on as a sole trader.Comment

As a sole trader if an agency takes me on and rather than paying my tax I choose to p!ss it up the wall HMRC will come after the tax from the agency, agency don't want that risk hence they refuse to deal with you on that basis.Originally posted by seanraaron View PostNo, I get that, I just don't see why Ltd company status is still required, or even an umbrella. There really should be an easier way though. I guess the only real option would be to somehow force people into umbrellas or force agencies to become umbrellas themselves.Originally posted by SlipTheJab View PostAs a sole trader if an agency takes me on and rather than paying my tax I choose to p!ss it up the wall HMRC will come after the tax from the agency, agency don't want that risk hence they refuse to deal with you on that basis.Comment

I really don't want yet another link in the chain holding onto my money thank you, it's bad enough having the risk of the client or agency going belly up owing thousands.Originally posted by seanraaron View PostThere really should be an easier way though.
