I've been told by my current client that my company might need to get Cyber Essentials scheme certification. I'm assisting the client fulfil a contract with MOD, sometimes working from the client's office, sometimes from mine. Has anyone else had Cyber Essentials scheme certification suggested as a requirement?

Not seen it as a requirement before but glad that it is getting some take-up. One of my clients are Cyber Essentials certified now and I have advised them on what to do and how to do it.Originally posted by steve63 View PostI've been told by my current client that my company might need to get Cyber Essentials scheme certification. Getting cyber essentials isn't that hard (especially if you're a small business). There are two stages to Cyber Essentials the first is a self assessment questionnaire that needs and the second is for it to be verified by a registered third party who will check the paperwork and may/may not perform some of their own checks on your company's IT setup. -
Weirdly never heard of them before but on Thursday had a call assigned to me from a client regarding a security hole in one of out NetApp filers.Comment

Cyber Essentials is fairly new, but it is starting to get some traction with organisations wanting to do business with the Public Sector. It's one of the assurance options for getting onto the G-Cloud procurement framework.
You can either Self Certify as Cyber Essentials or get yourself certified by an independent 3rd party as Cyber Essentials+. The latter carrying a bit more weight that a simple self certification.
It's a step down from ISO 27001, but thats over kill for most smaller businesses anyway."Being nice costs nothing and sometimes gets you extra bacon" - Pondlife.Comment

Went to a Cyber Security presentation on this last week, there was a DS from WM Cyber Crime Unit.
Criminals are targeting the SME's who work with big multinationals are they haven't got the money to spend on security.
We all need NextGen firewalls apparently. However quite an interesting talk, he was honest enough to say how far the police are behind in Cyber crime.
qhHe had a negative bluety on a quackhandle and was quadraspazzed on a lifeglug.
I look forward to your all knowing and likely sarcastic and unhelpful reply.

Bet he didn't mention how far behind they were in their own securityOriginally posted by quackhandle View PostWent to a Cyber Security presentation on this last week, there was a DS from WM Cyber Crime Unit.

He did touch on it, which was very honest of him. When they do a house raid on a suspect and they are logged on to whatever, they assign a "mouse wiggler" to ensure the pc doesn't lock.Originally posted by DaveB View PostBet he didn't mention how far behind they were in their own security
