PI & PL when it's not requested

    Hi,

I'm due to start a new contract going direct with the company, their contract doesn't specify the need for PI or PL insurance.

I have mine through Qdos but just wondering if it's not required should I just cancel it? Are there any situations where it comes in handy?

    Thanks

    VC

You need in to cover past work as well in case they come calling somewhere down the line. For the price of it I'd keep it.

I have to cover some of my past work for 5 years in some contracts.

Even though some of the work I've done I know is going to be binned as soon as possible and only is being done as the company has to comply with regulatory standards.

Are we still waiting for the landmark first time such a claim will be made?

If you didn't insure your car and you did two journeys and nothing happened then no need for insurance right??

Neither of them stipulate it in the T&Cs?

That doesn't work. Look up 'lifting (or piercing) the corporate veil'. They can look past the company and hold you personally available.

Isn't it funny that the ' I don't need to do that' brigade also seem to be the least informed.

Doesn't matter, if ill take riskier contract , where a lot of money is at stake for example, or have more assets, ill insure myself
