Maybe your contract was based on the previous manager. If your new manager does not want you to work from home you have two options:

1- Start a fight and maybe lose the client.
2- Work from the office, try to understand the client concerns and gain his trust.

    Good luck

Sounds like this comes down purely to people skills and negotiation, not contract details.

To an extent, yes. Working practices trump contracts anyway, given that the contract can disappear completely if you're seen as being arsey rather than simply standing your ground on what was agreed at the point of initial engagement. As contractors surely we must realize that there's a need to adapt at times.

                Not always possible.

For example if the contract is not a good rate but the OP thought s/he could do it because they could work at home and fit their personal circumstances around it, then being forced to go into the office simply won't work regardless of rate.

In my case if I hadn't been given the flexibility to work from home when I needed to, the project would have failed as they were already an important person down.

In another 2 people's case I know with 2 completely different companies they gave up their roles completely. It was even worse for them as they were permies.

Im with SE here. Not everyone can take a contract anywhere in the country, swan off mon to friday. Everyones personal circumstances are different. Looking after kids can come into it a lot. Childcare issues etc. What about single parents who have to sort childcare?

All well and good saying be flexible but if I took a contract miles away on the basis of WFH then the client could pay me double and tell me to come into the office - I still might be impossible. In that case, it'd be sorry client but thats the way it is. Good luck with getting someone else.
