I am a senior business analyst from Switzerland and planning to move to the UK in a few weeks. I have the right to work in the UK as a Swiss national. I would like to ask for advice to get a head start. Has anyone here on this forum have advice on finding a contract BA position before moving to the UK and before settling in? Is it possible to have initial phone interviews? I was planning on sending out my CV to recruiters and job boards but I am worried that i will be overlooked as I do not yet have a UK address. Your experiences and advice would be highly appreciated.

Is it possible to secure an IT BA contract in the UK before moving there

Nope. There are 100's of people queuing up for roles like this who can interview face to face. Securing one from abroad without a face to face is going to be nigh on impossible. Think of a different method IMO.
Are you talking about permanent or contract? Not a chance contracting without a UK LTD or at least an address. Agents are very risk averse so won't fly.'CUK forum personality of 2011 - Winner - Yes really!!!! -
Possible? Yes, likely? No.
In truth there's a fair bit of competition in the market so unless you have some unique selling points that really stand out as valuable you run the risk of being ignored.
As NLUK said many Agents are risk averse and an awful lot of them are plain ignorant so wouldn't know how to deal with such a strange beast as a non UK based applicant.Comment

Thanks everyone! I thought so too but wanted to check just in case. I only plan on going the contractor route (as I have been here in Switzerland) and had a question with regard to limited versus umbrella. What do you suggest? or rather, what is the most common way to go.Comment

If you're serious about contracting longer term then the current wisdom is a MyCo Ltd.
Obviously if you're even considering one of the "Schemes" that hide themselves as fake Umbrella's then you need some medical attention for the Mental disorder you're suffering from.Comment

Has anyone had experience with the contractor angels service? Contractor Angels.Comment

Put your brain care specialist on danger money, you're going to need some serious work.
An Umbrella claiming 83%+ retention is either bending the truth massively or using some type of scheme and that will lead to long term pain when HMRC start their attack.Comment

If you want an umbrella look at Contractor Umbrella. Lisa who runs the company posts on here regularly in the Umbrella Section. She drinks a bit too much tea but apart from than shes one of the good ones.'CUK forum personality of 2011 - Winner - Yes really!!!!Comment

The market is however difficult, so it may be harder, but if that's the case it will also be tough when you have a UK address.
I would apply from Switzerland, if you get no replies brace yourself for a difficult time when you're in the UK as well.Last edited by BlasterBates; 22 March 2015, 10:44.I'm alright JackComment

I get constant emails (at least 2 or 3 per week) for positions based in other european cities in a mixed array of countries, like Dublin, Amsterdam, Rome, Dusseldorf, etc.
Some of them are contracts, other perms.
If I got those to go there, I can imagine someone living in some of those cities/countries might be getting also roles to come to the UK, if that makes sense?
So maybe if you just try hard with the recruiter agencies in your country and signup for online CVs, you might start getting positions for the UK, as long as you specify you're open to relocation and stuff like that.Comment
