Seeing as this is continuing (and apologies to the OP for de-railing your thread)...

The argument is not that "IPSE may change direction totally at some indeterminate point in the future" but rather that its stated aims and target market have actually changed - a change that was not discussed with the membership but was presented as a fait acomplie with discussion happening after the change.

Thank you, Tarbera, for copying my post to the IPSE forum. I look forward to reading the responses of the IPSE clique

Exactly. The direction has changed, and the priorities will change accordingly (assuming they are successful in attracting more self-employed workers). To argue that the legislation is largely the same for contractors and the self-employed and that the focus will not change as a result of this change in direction strikes me as disingenuous.

          No it hasn't.

No it's not. For one thing you really need to get your head around "self employed". Apart from that covering a much wider range than sole traders, IPSE also covers Independent Professionals, which is what I am and I hope you are. There is no change in focus involved.

Once more, I struggle to understand the logic that says they are changing direction and that there is somehow a significant risk that they will forget what they've been doing for the last 15 years. They won't, and even them, do you really think their existing members - remembering that IPSE is owned by its members - would let them? Any BoD that tried that would be out of office very quickly indeed.

However it's pointless arguing that here. Get on to their forums and discuss it directly with the people making the decisions.

            Define quick

The CC has no authority directly to remove board members (although the board can vote to remove a member, which can then be vetoed by the CC). So you would need the CC to call a meeting of the company so that all members could vote on the removal of the board.

Since (at the moment) the board members are also all members of the CC, the chances of this happening quickly seem incredibly slim.

(If I'm wrong on any points of governance, please feel free to correct me - I'm still learning )

Not exactly wrong, but this is all being updated anyway (as you should know). However they managed to delete an unpopular board very effectively a few years back, using the current rules. There's more than one way to skin a cat.

I don't know how you opt out of the paper copy - I was a member for years before I even found out about the magazine because it never arrived.
Thanks FaQ - I know where the PDF version is - now I can find the "Community" too. Funny, there was a time when I went to a PCG Face to Face drinks evening and thought it was an interesting evening - met Tarbera there and one of the CC members, who picked up a drinks tab! It was held in Weybridge, but this must have been 2006!
I was an IPSE Consultative Council Member, until the BoD abolished it. I am not an IPSE Member, since they have no longer have any relevance to me, as an IT Contractor. Read my lips...I recommend QDOS for ALL your Insurance requirements (Contact me for a referral code).

Are you sure? If so, the current consultation is a sham and precisely what Faqqer is talking about.

I would like to reiterate, we should be discussing it over there. Any member who wants to be heard should go over and acquaint themselves with the current discussions and put their two penn'eth in. The main point being that Mal thinks we are the equivalent of LIDL. I think he would be surprised to know how many of us actually are members.

Second oops in one thread: I'm confusing magazines and newsletters...

However if you really don't want to get the magazine, try calling the office...
