New contract states 9 hours per day

I am looking to change contracts, and received my new contract today, but before signing I wanted to get opinions on a specific detail.

It states that the service hours are 9 hours per day, whereas with my current contract it doesn't state specific hours per day, and I work the standard 7.5 - 8 hours a day. I don't mind doing a bit of extra time, but it seems a strange requirement when the UK standard is 7.5 hours, and to be honest I don't want to be held to it to the letter.

Is this pretty standard, or something I should ask to have amended?

Not standard. Offer to increase your daily rate by 20% to cover their non-standard business requirements.

****** hell it gets worse. I saw one the other day that said it was a minimum of 8 hrs worked per day and thought that was a bit much.

Betting they mean 9 hrs work (i.e. 10 hours there). Getting moneys worth out of contractor.

A lot of my work involves musing while going for a stroll, so I wouldn't be overly concerned.

Is this for a Mayfair-based consultancy firm by any chance?

Got it down to a more agreeable 7.5 hours, so all good.

Did they say anything or just back down immediately? You might have to be cautious that working conditions don't expect you to do a "full day" like everyone else...

Count your travel time into it and claim the full commute as an expense
