Royal Navy prepares to protect British fishing waters if there is no deal

" Armed vessels primed from January 1 to stop EU fishing boats illegally entering Channel

The Royal Navy is preparing to protect Britain’s fishing waters in the event of a no-deal Brexit by deploying four patrol ships, it emerged on Friday night.

The armed vessels, said to span 80 metres in length, are to be primed from January 1 to deter EU fishing boats from illegally entering the English Channel.

Ministers are also reported to be preparing legislation to strengthen the powers of the Royal Navy Police to allow them to board foreign vessels and arrest fishermen if required.

It comes amid mounting concern that the exclusive economic zone, which can extend 200 miles from shore, will be the scene of a new “cod war” reminiscent of the clashes with Iceland in the 1970s.

The four patrol ships will be prepared to stop and even impound EU vessels if there is no breakthrough in the Brexit talks before the end of the month."

"Boris Johnson is seeking to overcome a key obstacle in the way of a trade deal by offering for Britain to compensate French fishermen in return for exclusive rights to the waters 12 miles off its coast. "

Was waiting for a gammon to say that. What they don't realise is that other countries have also navies to protect their waters, let's see what happens when a British fishing boat gets sunk for fishing illegally in EU waters.

Lets see, Ireland is part of the EU, maybe they could just say to the French that you're more than welcome to fish in our EEZ
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

                Cod Wars - Wikipedia

The Cod Wars (Icelandic: Þorskastríðin, "the cod wars", or Landhelgisstríðin, "the wars for the territorial waters") were a series of 20th century confrontations between the United Kingdom and Iceland about fishing rights in the North Atlantic. Each of the disputes ended with an Icelandic victory

This is the reverse of what happened with the UK and Iceland where the Royal Navy were forcing there way into Icelandic fishing waters to protect UK fishermen. That ended is disaster and defeat for the Royal Navy.

Once Royal Navy ships are deployed in the Channel, the French will blockade Calais. Well done Boris, well done you stupid lot who voted for Brexit.
