I think you'll find, "I'm considerably richer than yow"Originally posted by Platypus View PostI love your boast posts! Your contrarian post titles are usually the give-away of some swaggering content. You're so much better at them than that other W fella, although he's been copying your style and content, you're so much more casual with it, it has a certain style whereas W it just crassly pretending to be 'Richer than Yow'.

Ah yes, the Tory angels always trying to sort the country out, yet failing.Originally posted by original PM View PostIt was a Tory government in power.
Desperately trying to sort the country out after Labour once again fooked it up.
Three-Day Week - Wikipedia
They’ve failed for the last 9 years, but still managed to blame every one of their failures on someone else.
I suspect they spent too long watching ambulance chaser adverts “Where there’s blame there’s a claim”. Find someone to blame. Keep repeating they are guilty. Get others to repeat it (whether it’s 100% true, 50% true, or complete Boris). Repeat until it is believed.
...and no, as I have said several times before, I am not a Corbyn supporter and I do not think he would make a good PM.…Maybe we ain’t that young anymoreComment

Your own link says “Throughout the mid-1970s, especially 1974 and 1975, the British economy was troubled by high rates of inflation. To tackle this, the government capped public sector pay rises and publicly promoted a clear capped level to the private sector.”Originally posted by original PM View PostIt was a Tory government in power.

The U.K. government from 1970 to 1974 was Conservative.
It was Conservatives fooking it up (trying a hard line to tackle inflation) and then compounding their fookup by misreading the situation with the miners.

So I've been contracting for a quarter of a century now and have done very well out of it, mainly because I used the loot to buy property when it was cheap in the 90s/00s. Quite a bit of that time has been spent in Europe, Germany and Switzerland mainly (I remember the glory days of the mid-late 90s, 1st class flights every week with champagne served for breakfast Monday mornings, my own paid-for apartment).Originally posted by Platypus View PostI love your boast posts! In that period the planes to Europe were full of UK IT specialists going to consult in Europe. There never was a generation in Europe like my generation, the lot who PEEKed and POKEd their Commodore 64s, Spectrums and BBC Bs in the 80s.
But now Europe has another source of good IT specialists: Eastern Europe, who kept the mathematical rigour in their educational systems just as the UK dumbed down.
So a hard Brexit, where the UK becomes a 3rd country, will finish for good UK specialists going to Europe - why would companies go through the red tape required to take on someone from the UK? And vice versa.
And that's where the Brexit benefit comes for dual-nationals: we can simply work in either the UK or EU, with some of our competition removed either way.
Uk specialists who won't or can't become dual nationals will be confined to the UK: in my opinion this glut of oversupply will drive down wages and rates, if IR35 and ICTS haven't already.Last edited by sasguru; 27 November 2019, 11:05.Hard Brexit now!

As Boris takes the UK down the toilet;
French Consumer confidence surges
France seems to be doing quite well out of Brexit.
Boris will get his backside kicked in the negotiations with the EU.
EU to offer really bad deal to the UK
basically the bare minimum to prevent a catastrophic no deal Brexit
I'm alright JackComment

No wonder people don't like the EU
Voting Leave was cretinous. What however is even more depressing is how the brexiteers here have persistently ignored all the gobsmacking stupidity of the liars who made up the Brexit Story. Brexiteers all think Boris will get it done. How can they not be shaken to the core by the bizarre narrative of Theresa May boldly setting a deadline (a bigger act of self harm than the referendum itself), ignominiously being flushed down the toilet only for Boris to take the stand and do exactly the same thing?Originally posted by BlasterBates View PostBoris will get his backside kicked in the negotiations with the EU.
When we play football, after one team gets to 23 -1 down, there is an adjustment and the superior team swaps a player or two to even things up. If the EU had an ounce of decency they would give us someone vaguely competent and take eg Raab. Just so it's not such an embarrassing bloodbath."Don't part with your illusions; when they are gone you may still exist, but you have ceased to live" Mark TwainComment

Pretty poor due to, like most of the rest of the Western world, having to bail out the banks, which in turn were on the point of collapsing due to some dodgy instruments created mainly by US traders.Originally posted by Zigenare View PostWhen the Tory-Lib Dem alliance took over from the Labour Government, what was the state of UK finances?
