Take a look at the Withdrawal Agreement that the UK negotiated with the EU.

And consider how unreasonable it would be if the EU, having negotiated the WA with the UK, then changed its mind. What would Brexiteers say to that?

obviously any trade will be subject to the standard trade rules and if this needs to be enforced then spot checks like on any other border crossing will be in force.
