The Tories have a political and moral obligation, as a party of government, to follow their manifesto. Tory MPs also have an obligation to act in the interests of their constituents and of the country. What if these two obligations are contradictory?

Labour do not have any obligation to follow their manifesto, as they are not in government.

I don't think I have ever said that. I have my reasons for wanting to leave the EU and I never saw any of them pasted on the side of a bus or anywhere else. I made my mind up about leaving long before the referendum was even twinkle in David Cameron's eye.

But labour do have an obligation to follow the line agreed at conference by their membership - which is giving the Labour leadership a bit of grief at the moment.

It would be hypocritical in the extreme, though, for you to vote for a party knowing that you are voting for a known IRA sympathiser to represent you.

One might throw similar accusations at anyone voting for a Labour candidate given their anti semitic problems within the party.
