Because taking us out of the EU against our will is the material change that the SNP had in their manifesto and has a mandate for.

I know you are used to English parties ditching their manifesto as soon as they get elected but we think they should be honoured.

The SNP Scottish Government has a clear mandate to offer the people of Scotland a choice. The SNP has won two elections – the Scottish Parliament election in 2016 and the General Election last year – with an explicit commitment in our manifesto on holding a referendum. The Scottish Parliament has also endorsed that position.

I see your mistake. The constituent countries of the UK didn't each get a vote. Individual voters got a vote.

That will be your mistake. Ignoring the will of the Scottish people will see the UK break up.

We did try to amend but were outvoted as usual. We wanted an amendment that meant all 4 countries had to vote the same way before Brexit could happen.
