I doubt anyone said never happen. EU Army? Worries me as much as the British army does, as in not very much; Turkey? Not likely, especially with Cyprus; Euro? Not with the opt out we had, and even without an opt out the schedule of countries to move onto the Euro is fairly relaxed; Further integration? Depends on what it is - I would expect some to be good, some bad, but at all times we would be in the inside influencing it.

Sounds like you're living in fear of what might be, rather than taking it as and when/if it happens.

Nick Clegg said it was a "dangerous fantasy" and "simply not true" on one of the live tv debates. It worries me immensely, in that it could significantly weaken NATO. Admittedly on that point, I am in fear of what might be, but IMO with some justification. France and Germany want it to happen, and when they are in agreement about something, it does generally make it more, rather than less likely to happen.
Opt-outs and vetoes are worth what the EU decide they are worth. They were obtained in negotiations when the EU wanted something in return, but if the rules change at any time they could become worth less. Or indeed worthless. The PM may (no pun intended) have to sacrifice something along those lines to get her precious extension, and save her political skin. She may be rather too willing to do that.

At which point you would walk a referendum on a specific version of leave, rather than the unworkable all-the-unicorns hotchpotch you have now. Those vetoes mean a lot right now and give GB the best deal in the whole EU. Which is more than can be said for any current version of leaving. Just ask the disgraced former defense minister.

That’s a distinct possibility. But if we’re not taken seriously by the EU, why would we be taken seriously by prospective trading partners such as China, the USA, India, etc.
