When I said partly out I was thinking of the custom union option. But yep I would still class the Norway option as being partly out in the sense of the restrictions of being "associated" with the EU. -

It would be a soft border as is now. The EU or the UK is never going to put up a hard border, it's not going to happen.Originally posted by WTFH View PostWell, if the UK does not want free movement of people and goods with the EU, then the UK would put up the border.
If the UK wants free movement of people and goods, then the UK needs to negotiate that.
Without an agreement, there is a border, it's how nations work, unless perhaps you know some other way of having a border between two countries that have no agreement on the movement of people and goods between them.
Most checks are intelligence based, so people smuggling etc. Goods etc can be checked in Ireland or the UK at a place of business or delivery. Free movement of people won't continue because we just check the UK side.
The fact this has been made such an issue is because the EU has used the political capital as leverage.Comment

Goods have to abide by EU regulations/rules and you have no say in making the rules.Originally posted by meridian View PostWhat would it restrict you from doing?

Goods sent into the EU need to abide by EU regulations / rules anyway, regardless.Originally posted by woohoo View PostGoods have to abide by EU regulations/rules and you have no say in making the rules.
Membership payments.
Turkey is in a CU with the EU, do they make payments?
But that wasn’t really the point of my question. The point was, politicians need to grasp the pros and cons of every option, to decide what is best overall for the country. No point cutting off our noses to spite our face, if the best option includes a customs union.Comment

That sounds like you have a reason for voting against it in a second referendum. However it is still leaving the EU. A list of EU members contains the UK but not Norway. Let the people decide.Originally posted by woohoo View PostWhen I said partly out I was thinking of the custom union option. So all our trade has to abide by the regulation, so rest of world trade needs to implement that regulation. And you have no say in it.Originally posted by meridian View PostGoods sent into the EU need to abide by EU regulations / rules anyway, regardless.

Also the usual democratic arguments apply blah blah.Comment

Why are you in denial about the clear fact the leaving the EU has a wide range of possible outcomes including EFTA membership?Originally posted by woohoo View PostTiresome.Comment
