Going to be some serious money to be made buying cheap future classic cars now and selling them to petrolheads when all the new stuff is neutered.

Doesn't even need to be the high end stuff, even now some classically engineered cars are getting more desirable.. Things like the last of the V8s and other desirable naturally aspirated engines, those without too much electric gubbins for steering, throttle, 'driver assists'.

Add on top that many new cars are goppingly styled and the older variants of things like GTIs, fast Fords, older series beemers will become future classics.

Bonus being if you're into cars it's a lot more interesting collecting a few of these than boring pension and financial market investments. Just need to learn how to fix and restore them, that will become a dying art too so will be a skill in demand for those wanting something to keep themselves busy into retirement.

Thanks EU and the nanny state. Always new niches being created.

The driver will still be able to exceed the speed limit by pushing down on the accelerator (shock horror) but if they do it for any length of time an audible warning will sound and a warning displayed on the dashboard.
Cars will also be fitted with advanced driver distraction warnings. So with summer coming you know what this means. The next time you are distracted by a good looking pedestrian (sheep for the welsh amongst us) you will be automatically dug in the ribs from a device mounted in your seat. This is intended to mimic having you wife/spouse/partner in the passenger seat.

They see it as natural selection. As the population gets proportionally older more bikers get killed by OAPs that shouldn't be on the road. Maybe self driving cars will be a boon if they get it working safely enough to get the OAPs into them.

One local news report I remember from last year was a guy that had ridden for something like 30 years without incident, killed by some old biddie pulling out of a side road unexpectedly, despite it being a low speed crash on a 30 road.

The usual boomers to blame for all problems rubbish. According to the Beeb:

The most accident-prone age group, by a substantial margin, is young men. Indeed, 17 to 21 year-olds are three to four times more likely to have an accident than 70 year-olds.

                    You may have something here

Both my 73 GT6's simple to maintain, limited electrics to sort (only 4 fuses, each 30Amp) No power assisted steering, no electric windows, no central locking (unless its done on the inside I which case I can reach both door locks from the drivers seat), although the next investment might be a LED headlight conversion (there are some good bits to modern motoring technology) so I can at least see the road ahead in the dark.
Modern classics, which all the various sensors are going to be more difficult to keep running 40 to 50 years down the line, but there is lots of nice modern classics out there that would be fun in a speed restricted future.
