Which unfortunately only covers land and make no reference to what a "country" might call its "territorial waters" maybe there's a clue in the name.

Political unit, but not necessarily at the sovereign state level. Scotland is a political unit. So is Jersey. So is Gibraltar.

As I have mentioned a couple of times, it is not a very precisely defined word in terms of inclusions and exclusions.

Agreed its not a very well defined word unless you are Welsh. On the other hand reminding the Welsh that they are a conquered nation and an English principality is always good to wind them up.

In fact price of Wales comes from Welsh being a principality so effectively Prince of Wales is King of Wales.
