It's an EU regulation, so it's obviously for our own good. God help anything which manages to escape from a zoo, though. If we don't make a concerted attempt to shoot it, we'll be fined. Thankfully it's only for one day though...Originally posted by stonehenge View Post

It’s an EU regulation, which was signed and approved back in 2015. As such it has been law since then. The regulation was drafted with the Committee made up of Member State representatives, and voted on and approved by the European Parliament. The U.K. Secretary of State for the Environment seems to think that they should be controlled:

And the British Ecological Society calls it “a much welcomed step towards halting biodiversity loss”
The first EU list of 37 invasive alien species comes into force - British Ecological Society
