I suppose there is always a tendency amongst the trendy champagne socialist brigade to try and denigrate the sacrifices made on their behalf.

Ironically, this is only possible due to the very freedoms that so many of us put our lives on the line to preserve for one and all in the free world.

Yet those of us who were prepared, during the best years of our lives, to step into the breach and face down the oppressive might of a foe that heavily outnumbered us, bear these sneering ingrates no real ill-will.

We did not stand shoulder to shoulder in Europe's hours of Cold War peril for fame or fortune, we did it because somebody had to and it was the right and proper thing to do and because we were the right and proper people to do it.

History will recall that when courage and fortitude were required, my band of brothers (and sisters) were there to provide it.

And that will do for me.
