So you DON'T understand the Westminster model of representative democracy. That is the model. Do you think it is equivalent to dictatorship? -
I don't dispute the model, what I am questioning is if the Westminster model of representative democracy does not represent the will of the people (in the case of Brexit) then is it a democracy or a dictatorship, or is it just not fit for purpose.Originally posted by Old Greg View PostSo you DON'T understand the Westminster model of representative democracy. Brexit should be a free vote and MPs should vote along the lines of their constituents in this respect rather then their own views or the views of their party leaders.
If you voted for something, and all the Tory politicians who encouraged you to vote that way then turned around and refused to stand for election as prime minister, then it should make you wonder what game they are playing - they don't want to lead the country to Brexit. They just want to blame everyone else.…Maybe we ain’t that young anymoreComment

I my humble opinion I think you have stated the bleeding obvious. Even Corbyn doesn't want to be PM until after the Brexit question has been sorted. You have to give May credit she has stuck to it and not run away when she has had ample opportunity to do so and when no one else, from any political persuasion has wanted to stand up, be counted, and pick up this poisoned chalis.Originally posted by WTFH View PostIf you voted for something, and all the Tory politicians who encouraged you to vote that way then turned around and refused to stand for election as prime minister, then it should make you wonder what game they are playing - they don't want to lead the country to Brexit. In name only. There have been many dictators that have been elected in a "democratic" process. Does Vlad's recent democrstic election ring any bells here?Originally posted by Old Greg View PostIt is a democracy.

It is distinguished from dictatorship, in that if the electorate don't like the current government, they can vote them out. Also, there is a free media that can criticise the government and hold them to account. It's not perfect but it is very different from dictatorship.Originally posted by Yorkie62 View PostIn name only. There have been many dictators that have been elected in a "democratic" process. I'm stating the bleeding obvious, and that is why Brexit is doomed to failure. Until one of those who duped people into voting for Brexit is prepared to stand up and deliver it, it should not happen. They should be held responsible.Originally posted by Yorkie62 View PostI my humble opinion I think you have stated the bleeding obvious. Brexit is a poisoned chalice, it was always going to be one, and yet people voted for it. Turkeys voting for Christmas and all that.…Maybe we ain’t that young anymoreComment
