    I think I'm seeing a pattern here repeated years later...

                But you are afraid of change. You're afraid of the way the world is becoming more global and integrated, with the movement of people and mixing of cultures creating a culturally diverse society.

                The 'change' you've voted for is to go back to the good old days; closed borders, closed minds, protection of british culture (whatever that means), the days of the empire. This isn't change, this is a retrospective step because you are afraid of the future.

                  Seems quite true. Brexiters remind me of the Just William books, a tinted misty eyed view of a land that really never existed except in someone's imagination. They remind me in particular of Violet Elizabeth Bott - "I'll thcream and thcream and thcream 'till I'm thick" if she did not get her way.
