UK driving licence 'may not be valid in EU' after no-deal Brexit

No doubt Brexiters will dismiss this as scaremongering project fear, as "Who cares, we won, you lost, get over it", or "No that wont happen", or "fine, we'll just ban their driving licences".

I wonder what they'll think when the hoards of Polish truck drivers are no longer delivering British made food to the local supermarket?
and Godwin's law in the first title!

The existing British lorry drivers will be glad they can earn above minimum wage again.

How much do you think minimum wage is?

Average HGV salary is in mid £30k’s, so a bit more than statutory minimum.

You’ve also missed the flip side of not allowing Polish lorry drivers on U.K. roads - the U.K. ones won’t have commercial licences on the continent either....

there is no shortage of HGV drivers, the government's own report, published this year basically said there's plenty of people with HGV licences that no longer drive because pay and conditions are rubbish. Companies have no interest in retention. Despite the erosion of pay and conditions the wages are still seen as attractive to many EE drivers who may only be able to earn 250 euros a month driving at home. Agencies are always moaning they cannot get decent drivers but ignore it when all the good drivers say pay more and stop insisting drivers go self employed to reduce your tax!

The official line on this came out today: https://www.gov.uk/government/public...no-brexit-deal

This notice is meant for guidance only. You should consider whether you need separate professional advice before making specific preparations.
          This means 'subject to change'
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

I was using a different site, but let’s use yours.

              https://www.totaljobs.com/salary-che...-driver-salary

The average salary for HGV Driver jobs is £26,406.
Still not minimum wage as you suggested.

You need better friends if they’re telling you that they do 60 hours a week regularly. The law is clear on what hours they are allowed to do, and they are tachographed:

              https://www.gov.uk/drivers-hours/eu-rules

              Driving hours
The main EU rules on driving hours are that you must not drive more than:

9 hours in a day - this can be extended to 10 hours twice a week
              56 hours in a week
90 hours in any 2 consecutive weeks
I’m not saying that it’s an easy job or an easy lifestyle, but it’s not minimum wage either.

While Britain is in the EU, it's very simple for a Polish resident in the UK to get a British driving licence. Under EU law it's just a swap. If they're resident in the UK for more than a year, it's obligatory to make the swap, or they can't drive.

When EU law no longer applies, however, everything changes. There's no swap, there's no recognition legally of another country's qualifications. By default it means taking the UK driving test. Doddle perhaps, simple... no.

If its £29,000 over 60 plus hours its not far off.

This is after a 20% rise so its £23,000 for 60 hours so £19,400.

They are tachographed for driving. Waiting & unloading isn't on the tacho. That is assuming they actually use the tacho many companies tell you not to, its not like its cheat proof.

My Friends are fine, they tend not to have a lot of time for people who think they know what their job is like having never done it, or who don't think they should complain because people undercut them with the governments assistance.
