Why should the UK police send boats? Do you think French police can't keep them separated or do you want a clash between French and UK police at the edge of France's territorial waters?Originally posted by GreenMirror View PostSo the French are going to send some police boats. Bog off Froggy!
From the sounds of it, there are no British laws preventing boats from taking the scallops, but there are French ones preventing French boats taking them.
Rightly, too, imo, due to this being the scallop spawning season. If the scallops are harvested early (ie now) then there will be a greatly reduced catch for anyone (British or French) next year.
Nothing to do with Brexit, just fishermen being *******.Comment

Oh, and the main offenders can hardly be called “British”:
https://www.theguardian.com/commenti...es-environmentWorse, from the French point of view, the relatively small British boats that used to come over from Newlyn and Brixham in the West Country have been joined by mega-boats from Scotland. One of the vessels attacked on Tuesday night was the Honeybourne III from Peterhead, a Scottish vessel belonging to a Canadian-owned company.
The French fishermen complain that the large boats, with heavier dredging tackle and freezing equipment, are capable of hoovering up enough scallops in one day to keep local fishermen in work for a month. They also claim – and this is disputed – that the large ships leave the seabed like a “ploughed field”.Comment
