If we are so mediocre, why are the EU crapping themselves about us leaving, and doing everything possible to prevent it?His heart is in the right place - shame we can't say the same about his brain... -

If you look back at earlier Brexit threads, I said this back then, despite a large percentage of the Scottish fishing industry being pro-brexit at the time of the referendum.Originally posted by BlasterBates View Post
One of the most vocal brexit supporters was celebrity 'Trawlermen' prawn fisherman, Jimmy Buchan. His entire business model relies on 'next day delivery' all over the EU. There is absolutely no premium priced market for langoustine in the UK.
I owned a prawn boat (creel) for about 5 years (sold it just after the referendum). We sold the catch live to a processor who collected 3 times a week and delivered tubed langoustines at premium prices to France, Italy and Spain where the premium market was for that product. A 12 hour customs delay 100% kills that market. When freedom comes along, don't PISH in the water supply.....Comment

Well whoopty-*******-doo, 90% of the market in Wales worth £38.8m.In 2017, Welsh fishermen sold 90 percent of their shellfish to EU markets, contributing a total £38.8m to the fishing sector.
Let’s just give them £40m and call it quits, it’s less than a day’s worth of what we’re going to be giving to the NHS.Comment

OK - interesting perspective. I personally hadn't noticed them doing anything, let alone "everything". Can you tell us any action the EU have taken to prevent us from leaving?Originally posted by Mordac View Postdoing everything possible to prevent it?
(For readers in general, I don't seriously expect any response to this question. Brexiteers utterly abhor concrete arguments, verifiable facts etc. Whether they are like my wife and clothes prices - having no relevant perceptual mechanism - or they just think the question is pointless because obviously their general point is self-evidently valid, without any ... evidence - I don't know. But either way facts just muddy the water)"Don't part with your illusions; when they are gone you may still exist, but you have ceased to live" Mark TwainComment

Yes - For an annual fee they allow us access a market of 550m people to trade with without tariffs and customs duty.Originally posted by Cirrus View PostOK - interesting perspective. We can resend A50 at any point. Bet your boots though the moment they interfere with the 'peoples will' the Wrexit camp will claim confirmation as to how they always interfere with the democratic process."Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience". If only we had a man in Brussels who was there to fight for the British Fishing Industry. If only he had turned up to more than 1 of the 42 meetings held in 3 years. If only he had done something other than claiming his subsidised salary from UK taxpayers yet failed to do his job.Originally posted by BlasterBates View Post…Maybe we ain’t that young anymoreComment

It's by no means certain we can, although you would think the EU27 would jump at the chance of avoiding all the unnecessary hassle. Without doubt, cancelling Brexit - and maintaining (completely) the status quo - would be the best option at the moment. Possibly the Brexiteers would come up with some sort of scenario that matches EU membership or surpasses but so far they've come up with diddly squat."Don't part with your illusions; when they are gone you may still exist, but you have ceased to live" Mark TwainComment
