Well as long as the people who normally buy this fish are either happy with frozen fish or are willing to not put up with trade barriers put in place by spoilt children who could not get their own way.

That's not how the EU works.

There are ways of convincing countries that what is bad for us is bad for them but if you don't bother building bridges with MEPs in your coalition group in other countries, then as an MEP you are fecked.

But you have to put yourself in the mind of a Brexit supporter.

Don't turn up to debate: Blame the EU that they aren't interested in hearing what you might want.
Don't turn up to vote: Blame the EU that your vote wouldn't have mattered.

In the mind of a Brexit supporter, you must start off by blaming the EU, then work back to what you can blame them for, always but always ignore facts, always but always ignore what responsibility that you had, and if that fails, use smilies and call anyone who disagrees with you a snowflake, ultra left wing and ultra right wing at the same time.

Oh, and don't forget that anyone who voted Remain is more "elite" than Jacob Rees-Mogg and Boris Johnson.

Had he actually made the effort and argued his case he may actually have persuaded others to vote against it or been able to introduce amendments in favor of the UK.

Why would we need to negotiate that?

The barriers that we were inside and had no effect on us?

I thought the EU did not practise protectionism?

If there is a need for goods the UK currently supplies to Europe to continue to be supplied then why would anyone put barriers in place to suddenly stop that - seems like cutting off your nose to spite your face...

or something a spoiled ten year old would do when they cannot get their own way.

But yes if those countries which currently buy our fish are happy to live without them then fine - that is one of the challenges we expected Brexit to bring about.

Well soon we'll be able to charge them full rates for said fish. They've been getting it for next to nothing* for the last 40 years, so we'll wait and see how much they miss their rollmops...

*Next to nothing, defined under the Common Fisheries Policy as "absolutely f*** all..."

The UK is leaving the single market and customs union and is thereby putting trade barriers squarely on the table.
