Will Brexit be a success or failure?

While Brexit is negotiated and implemented, which is likely to take 5 years, AI will be delivering its transformational effects on our economy and our world of work.

Specialist AIs already do some things better than humans. In about 7 years General AIs (GAIs) are likely to achieve IQ parity with humans, and they will then continue to improve significantly faster than humans. These GAIs are currently hugely energy inefficient compared to humans, but you only need a few Einsteins to dramatically change the world, and their value is inestimable.

We will never be able to declare Brexit a success or failure because there is a bigger tide coming that will swamp its impacts. Brexit is the deck chairs on the Titanic.

All I will say, I'm not sure the Euro Dream, in the longer term, will stay afloat.

My mind still hasn't changed on that.

“The reason I voted to leave was that I'm in favour of sovereignty. This was about sovereignty for me.
        .....
In its Brexit White Paper earlier this year the Government admitted the UK Parliament “has remained sovereign throughout our membership of the EU”.

“Germany’s kingmaker who is set to prop up Merkel says Britain CAN slash migration while keeping EU trade … Liberal party leader Christian Lindner says 'all options need to be on the table' for Brexit” declares the headline, going on to tell “His words raise the prospect of Britain being able to maintain free-trade links with Europe while controlling our borders and escaping the grip of the EU court … They also stand as a stark rebuke to other European leaders, who have tried to claim that the UK cannot pick and choose which parts of the EU to sign up to”.
          ...
“Mr Lindner suggested that Britain could remain in the single market as long as it accepted free movement of labour - instead of the free movement of all people … That would mean only EU citizens with jobs in the UK could settle here, and they could not claim any benefits from the state”
          Nope...

“there can be no cutbacks in the basic freedoms of the internal market. If the British have problems with freedom of movement within Europe, they can perhaps be convinced that it is only a matter of free movement of workers. Fear of immigration into social systems is groundless”.
          ...
“if the UK could restrict entry to migrants without jobs, and stop benefits handouts to foreigners, they may conclude that single market membership is the best way to keep the advantages of trade with the EU”.
That was one of Murdoch's lying rags 'translating' from the German, except they didn't, they just made it up.

Leavers, they believe in false gods...

Absolutely agree 100%. The measure of whether Brexit is a success or not will be measured by how much we're in for when the whole house of cards goes Bristols up.
The main reason Tusk is virtually begging the UK to change its mind is that market confidence in the EU is going to take a hit when the next round of Greek bailout negotiations finally happens. The second biggest contributor leaving is going to shake things up a bit, and they know it, and more importantly, fear the consequences.
