In my experience (e.g. my current contract) the end client mostly regards you as an employee of the consultancy company that Your Co is contracted to (and the end client may or may not be aware that you're working as an associate), and it's the consultancy co that regards you as the subbie.

Nonetheless I agree that it's not relevant re IR35.
