Why do you feel he has to be local? What exactly are you after? Morgtages? Life Insurance?

Locality shouldn't come into it; I'd rather deal with somebody 50 miles away that offered better value for money than somebody half a mile away that doesn't know their arse from their elbow.

      I can't recommend them enough.

If possible I like to be able to meet someone face to face at lest initially. It helps me feel confident we can work together successfully. However, I agree that i'd prefer a better performing IFA at a distance than a poor one locally.

I'm new to contracting. I've gone for the ltd company approach. I'm looking specifically for pension advice and generally advice how to get the most from my money as a contractor.

The guy I use from St James Place works near Durham but travels over to the north west to see me - may well cover Scotland as well, but I don't know.

Not a specialist in contractors, but knew plenty about how I work, IR35 etc. before I'd said very much.

I have a contact who, while not specialising in contractors, certainly has experiencing in dealing with them. Based in Edinburgh. I can PM you his details?

Don't forget you are not just a contractor, you are a director of a small company. Many IFA's will have considerable experience dealing with small companies so will know enough. I don't think our situation is unique to contractors only.

                  Give my accountant a bell

Home Glasgow : Grants Chartered Accountants

They have hundreds of Contractors and offer a superb service, they have paid for themselves many times over for me already

They look more like an accountant than an IFA
