    Home office expenses

    Hi all,

been searching the forum for this but couldn't find one within 5 mins so I thought I'd ask the question again.

Can I redecorate a room in my house that I use for work at the expense of the business? That includes wooden flooring, TV, monitor, office chair, office furniture etc.

I can't see the point of charging my business rent/mortgage for this? Or is there some benefit I can derive from it?

    Much appreciated

I am afraid you won't find this by searching as I don't believe anyone has been daft enough to ask it yet.

You are decorating a room in YOUR HOUSE that you happen to use as an office to which you only claim £4 a week...

Will let you figure that one out.

The business can buy equipment and office furniture but you can't claim redecoration as an expense - I think it's only senior MP's who are allowed to do that

Are you trolling for a reason?

Are you contracted out to CUK by any chance?

How is a TV wholly and exclusively for business use?

Even if you try to say it is, it's unlikely you'll ever be able to convince HMRC that you don't sneak a bit of Loose Women on at lunchtime. Which makes it a benefit in kind.

                Desk - Yes
                Office chair - Yes
                Filing Cabinet - Yes
TV - A requirement for your work?

If you use terms that apply to office furniture it doesn't look so much like you're trolling. If you describe your lounge/dinning room furniture it looks like you're taking the piss.
