Indeed, a fight to the death between WG and HMRC leaving us caught in the cross-fire with no possibility of a negotiated settlement. I'm aware that most people on this forum are not interested in a settlement and NTRT don't appear to have the appetite for this but I shall continue to discuss with HMRC although I have to say that I'm getting nowhere fast. WG and HMRC are making a settlement impossible.

Whatever WG would do, HMRC will never settle.

Settlement is no good to me - I will go bankrupt if we have to pay anything.

Settle, with that bunch of scum! last thing on earth I would do, they're gonna have to work for it. Im not gonna make it easy for them. I will make sure they spend a lot of time and effort on the extraction.

I just can't see why they'd offer a deal. First of all, they're not risking their own money, secondly they think they have us nailed. They want to be seen as people you don't want to cross. The only thing that'd I think they could give would be extra time to pay, but that'll come at a price too. It's not like they have to let us come out of it with some dignity, they want us humiliated. I sincerely wish you the very best of luck, but personally I haven't detected a shred of humanity in them, quite the opposite.

Just listening to John Redwood on Radio 4 saying how unfair it is for a retrospective tax change to be forced into the UK Government, maybe we can come up with a pithy slogan for this, maybe No To Retrospective Tax or NTRT

I agree, unacceptable! Yet its ok for your government to agree a bill that allows HMRC to demand advanced payment of a vast sum of money with so little time to pay it (90 days in fact) from UK tax payers when a court has not even proven that they did anything wrong in the first place.
