No To Retro Tax – Campaign Against Section 58 Finance Act 2008

Thanks for the spreadsheet deckster. Unfortunately for me and I'm sure a lot of us it makes no odds if it's £50k or £150k as I'll have to sell the family house and car I take my kids to school in to pay for this illegal tax.

Just want to balance the fact that anybody reading this from HMRC shouldn't be getting their hopes up that we are all making calculations and preparing to make payments. It ain't going to happen - now or ever and you can come take my house out of my dead hands if you wish.

Meanwhile my MP doesn't give me full support while he's allegedly inviting his rent boy into the Houses of Parliament and taking drugs.

    Morally repugnant springs to mind.

My fault for calling it a newsletter. It was more an update and toolkit for those who needed to respond to their MPs.

There should be a newsletter forthcoming.

          Delusional

I think HMRC are delusional if they think they are going to recoup much money from this illegal tax; and definitely not as much as taxpayers money they're spending in pursuing it so far. They really need to take heed of this reality and do the right thing for once.

            Another great newsletter thanks NTRT.

Any update on the ECHR complaint?

Does anyone know what UKIPs line is on retro-tax / HMRC DOTAS smash and grab? They are getting more and more vociferous, and they certainly have the beating of Clegg and the Lib Dems. I reckon if UKIP opposed the policies then he'd be quite happen to embarrass the Tories, especially once he'd seen the before election / after election statements from the Bullingdon Club Masters of Morality.

                Don't hold your breath.

Nigel Farage used his firm Thorn In The Side Ltd to halve tax bill | Mail Online

"The revelation risks leaving him open to allegations of hypocrisy, having previously criticised people who try to avoid tax as the ‘common enemy’."

From a PR perspective, the difficulty stems from the perception that these schemes are used by rich people to avoid taxes and no political party wants to be associated with that (esp. the Tories). The push comes from central Gov't more than HMRC.

That was well-timed, lol! The comments are interesting though, they are very much in his favour and lots of people stressing that what he was done was entirely legal. Maybe the tide is starting to turn in the PR battle with HMRC / Government and it's their hypocrisy that is starting to show through. I wonder if he has a DOTAS number tucked away somewhere.

Well it seems that hypocrisy knows no bounds when it comes to political parties.

I would have great respect for Farage if he didn't come out with the same rhetoric on tax avoidance as everyone else.

well you never know, he seems to be giving them the bird on everything else!

Im in a bit of a quandary, I have a property I could sell to pay most of my accelerator notice, BUT if I sell now there will be CGT due as part of the normal process of selling an asset.

So Im wondering whether I wait and when the bill arrives offer it up for sacrifice and HMRC might decide that as part of a settlement, and that I personally am not making any gain as all Monies go to HMRC they might waive any CGT. any thoughts and anyone else in the same boat and if so do you have a cunning plan?
