This may make me unpopular, but taxes do, at least partly, go towards many of those things that make us a functioning society. I have problems with the implementers and use of the money I pay in taxes but not the concept of taxation as being different from commercial agreements. Wihtout something of this sort life is "solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short."

I think most would agree with you GS. Taxes are necessary. You just need to pay within the law. (well, that's how things used to work )

I absolutely agree! Further I am all in favour of HMRC stamping down hard on tax avoidance and closing all schemes asap.

I just object to them doing it retrospectively. And I object to them lying to cover their incompetence.

Totally sensible comment as long as those whose spend the money do so prudently and remain accountable to those who elect them. Unfortunately neither of those statements are true therefore I thinks its totally acceptable to legally mitigate ones tax liability.

Post Briefing Event - Response From MP

Sounds like the Briefing Event has had a major impact on MPs...had a fantastic response from my MP via her researcher who attended on her behalf...Im not going to name her because I dont want the Whips (or anyone else getting to her)...but she's fully behind us and prepared to stick her neck out...she's known for being a thorn in the side and for speaking her mind...I have redacted sections of her message as I dont want to give any more away than necessary at the moment...but its all good positive stuff from her.

It was very interesting to attend the debate this week and I have subsequently spoken to Mrs XXX about the issue. It does seem that the No to Retro Tax group have increased the amount of evidence they have to support their argument which is encouraging. Mrs XXX is, as you know against this tax, and has previously written to the Minister requesting it be repealed.......Further to this Mrs XXX is keen to speak in the event that this is discussed in debate and will also be looking out for this. I hope this assures you of Mrs XXX’s continued support for the removal of the retro tax.
