No To Retro Tax – Campaign Against Section 58 Finance Act 2008
Does it really only benefit non-NTRT members (and HMRC) ?
Honest answer, Im not sure.
Even if NTRT had a dedicated secure forum, how could you be sure HMRC didnt have a mole or managed to register themselves and doesnt that cut to the core of moving off here?
Im not sure I understand the 'does it really only benefit non NTRT members.' I know a couple of people who had their head in the sand but have recently joined up. If you close this thread even with a re direct link, Im not sure many lurkers or 'head in sander' would join up.
As I said a short time ago, this forum has been a support lifeline for us. I dread to think where we would be without the feedback from others in the same predicament.
I have been a regular monthly contributor to NTRT since the earliest days and it isn't a light commitment. The contributions have been maintained during periods 'on the bench' and are maintained now despite being a pensioner.
I am into this for 6 figures which I don't have. Hector will consider our home an asset that can be liquidated to pay the bill. Against that background NTRT is the only defence and therefore an essential investment.
A short while ago I discovered that of the thousands of people in jeopardy less than 500 are regular contributors to the fight.
Reluctantly therefore I would support closing this 'club' and maintain my communications through secure channels with NTRT in the hope that more of the freeloaders can be encouraged to make effective and regular contributions to maintain the fight.
I am enormously grateful for all that the team have done and continue to achieve. I also have great respect for WG who, despite the occasional bile from this forum, continues to take the fight right into Hector's domain.

Please don't close this forum. I am a paid NTRT member, but reading the posts is the only thing stopping me from going crazy.
Hmrc say I owe 100k, which I don't have and the sooner they get this into the thick heads the better.
Some people probably think they will benefit from what NTRT are doing anyway, so why bother joining?
That was the case in the beginning when we were lobbying against the legislation but it's no longer true.
In any case, what's £200 versus a 5 or 6 figure tax bill?
Firstly for those who don't know I'm not part of this at all (I sit here as an interested bystander probably having annoyed Santa and Donkey multiple times).
But regardless of whether you are moving to a private forum or not £200 is nothing.
For those who are effected and not members remember its only those who are party to the forthcoming court cases who have any chance of avoiding immediate payment when an APN arrives.
Yes you will have to give NTRT some money now (and you may not be able to afford it) however if you don't HMRC may very shortly be asking for everything you own and more..... And very quickly that request will come with added menace....
I just want to say a huge thanks to everyone who has donated and continues to donate, the standing orders, the small amounts from people who can't afford much, the very generous donations from those who can afford.
Legal opinions/advice don't come cheap. It's only with your help that we're able to carry on.
For those suffering genuine hardship, we have always waived the donation. Obviously if the worst happens, there will be a hell of a lot more people suffering hardship. But meanwhile, it's £200 less into the pockets of HMRC and a chance to get a better outcome.
But DR addresses a valid point... do we continue on a public forum, benefiting people who stick their heads in the sand and refuse to contribute a penny to our campaign?

Just my initial thoughts though.
+1 Surely this thread is purely advertising now. I don't remember anything of importance appearing here for ages prior to the APN discussion yesterday. I can see Santa's viewpoint but unless there is somethig telling people about NTRT and showing the people involved I think its going to be very difficult to get those whose head is in the sand to join...

I agree, reluctantly. I don't think we should completely abandon this forum because I don't want an 'us and them', but there are issues coming up which will be for NTRT members only. This forum could be a general MP one. HMRC have definitely benefitted from this forum, especially early on. I'd still be cautious about open discussion even on a supposedly secure forum, because we know we have a leak. I would much prefer though that NTRT get a couple of thousand new members and we go forward and fight this together on multiple fronts. Think what could have been done if we had all signed up at the beginning.
