But for how long? After all we know that HMRC are champing to take Huitson to the tribunals and it would seem that when they do, it's game over. This year is likely the last chance we had to get an amendment into a Finance Act, so if not now - then when? Are we to hope that the government will have a change of heart and just throw in a special Act just for us?

I'm the first to say I don't understand the way that politics works, and I get that we're playing the long game here - but it's really not at all obvious what there is left to us.

Still, it ain't over till it's over and as you say we just have to keep the faith and keep plodding. Most of us have no choice, after all...

I'm sure NTRT will be sending out a newsletter with the next plan of attack.

Thing is Gauke didn't answer any of the questions.

If he had stood up, farted and then sat down again, would it still have been withdrawn?

Also don't understand why it wasn't voted on.
When is the next time this can be debated? Next year??

I have to say that after listening to that it hits home that our country is run by individuals with about as much integrity as a group of convicted serial killers.

Gauke, in particular, represents just about everything that is utterly odious and despisable about the ruling class - just hearing his voice makes me want to start up a chain saw.

We should rise up in rebellion and destroy these half-wits who continue to fail in their attempt to govern us.

Although a word of advice, you may need several alcoholic drinks after hearing Gauke's reply. Really hoping to get some positive understanding of this amendment debate.
                Need a drink...

Does anyone have a direct link to Steve Baker to find out why it went the way it did, once the dust has settled?

I wrote to Gauke this week to explain that the difference in my take pay between a Ltd company using dividends and the MTM arrangement wasn't that much (maybe around 5%) - my motivation was to have certainty over IR35

I cannot see how quoting the effective tax rates of some users justifies the retrospective change. What about all the other schemes (K9 etc), and what about the likes of Google - if we quoted what they pay in corporation tax as a percent would that justify retrospective laws?

Gauke listed the 3 things he was objecting to in 2008, what about "It is not acceptable that the Government permit something that they consider unacceptable to exist for some years, and then seek to introduce retrospective legislation to address it."
