I am very sorry to hear that.Originally posted by Retro View PostI recently had a stroke. I suppose that I should let my potential beneficiaries know about this HMRC hounding, in case they end up dealing with it? I assume HMRC will try to take it out of my estate if the worst happens?
I believe HMRC will make a claim against the estate.
Take care

On the length of time it is taking to take our cases anywhere, I wonder if HMRC have been hoisted by their own petard. There are so many legal tax avoidance stories these days that if they pursue us so viciously, they will have to answer as to why they haven't done the same for their own freelancers for example, never mind Hartnet's buddies. On the other hand, if they do, then the risk a huge public backlash as well as clogging up the tax tribunal system for years to come. People will be very quick to point out the cushy tax and pension positions civil servants and MPs receive from the public purse, and the hypocrisy of the likes of Gauke and Danny Alexander will be brought into even sharper focus.

Thanks everybody for your good wishes. I am making a good recovery and I certainly don't wish to depress you. I started with MTM in 2002, and I would have hoped that all this would be resolved by now.Originally posted by OnYourBikeGB View PostAll the very best and wishing you a full and quick recovery, Retro.

Letter from MP
This morning's mail brought a response from MP. He'd finally had a reply from Gauke.
A depressing read from Gauke; still not answering the points. I've forwarded it to NTRT.
Get well soon Retro. So sorry to hear that you're not well.
My 3rd Dan grading tomorrow, so my imaginary opponent will be a certain Govt minister!

Enforcement Limits
The HMRC handbook seems to suggest that there is an "enforcement limit" on NI but not Income Tax. Therefore I don't think HMRC can chase NI debt that is older than 6 years. That might save us some cash if this proves to be true.Originally posted by zeitghost View PostI think it's probably 20 years rather than the normal 6.

So basically DR reckons it could take as long as our HMRC appeals - 10+ years!
DR - is it worth updating the opening post with this info or is it too much or your personal opinion?
My only hope of avoiding bankruptcy or paying any of this off is hyper-inflation : I reckon my chances are quite good. My mortgage is worth more than my house and I can only just afford to live each month. <mod snip>Comment
