The Irony of the situation is

that Mr Gauke (and indeed the entire committee) are fully aware of HMRC actions and seem, by default, to be supportive of those actions as UK is in a period of financial austerity.
Todays meeting has grouped Tax Evaders and Tax Avoiders as "Tax Dodgers" and effectively elevated the status of "Benefit Scroungers".
I cant understand how we can follow the law, play by the rules, HMRC don't and we are penalised.....was the referee a homer?

still going on, check the website. Its now the section from 4:30PM. Depressing that some people running the country dont even seem to know the difference between transparent avoidance and evasion, its really quite irritating!

If We are up under one of the New Clauses, NC3 or NC4

there is absolutely no way we will be heard at the current rate of progress. If they continue till 9.00pm only another 3 or so clauses will be discussed...........why is there no time limit set for clause discussion? .....at last they are filtering back voices and yawns can be heard and sympathy for HMRC attendees.

Names and comments made prior to kick off after tea

Should names of people be mentioned in casual chats, with regard to tax issues, before the meeting resumes?
they have now said they would be finished before 9.00pm

They seem to be making good progress. There are only 5 real clauses to go before they get onto NC3 and NC4 which is the one that matters to us.

Regarding Clause 222, Gauke reassured the Committee that a Senior HMRC Official will decide whether a particular course of action is 'proportionate'.

                    That's alright then!
