With the cuts to services for disabilities, I'm sure they did.

I think the Tunisian medalist would have been most concerned about cuts to front line services in the UK.

Just in case anyone wondered, I'm still here and checking the forum every day.

Nothing much to report to at the moment hence the radio silence.

The Chancellor’s retrospective action on Barclays highlights tax failures - Telegraph

The fact the Treasury was forced into retrospective legislation proves two things: that what Barclays was doing was lawful in the first place, and that tax law, administered by HM Revenue & Customs, was flawed.

“Regardless of the specifics of this case, retrospection conflicts with the principles that should underpin any fair and internationally competitive tax regime,” said Tyrie (Andrew Tyrie, chairman of the Treasury Select Committee), which is an issue for everyone trying to make a living in the UK.

The wider concern for business, however, is that the Government has told the Treasury Select Committee that retrospective legislation will be kept to “wholly exceptional circumstances”, which for a cash-strapped Treasury means pretty much any time its sieve-like tax code is shown to be not fit for purpose.

In other words "exceptional" is purely determined by how much £££ is at stake.
