Thank you for that Lisa. It was always going to be a long shot to get an amendment made this time around. There was simply not enough time to apply enough broad-based pressure on Govt ministers to agree to a change.

However, we did not expect it that quickly so we go on. There are further opportunities within the next 12 months and we are already working on those which puts us up on the clock so to speak. We are not going to pack up our bags at one tiny setback. S58(4) is contrary to the Rule of Law, and there are only 5 countries in the world that don't outlaw retrospection in their constitutions. That is the scale of banana republic the UK has sadly become. We used to lead the world in justice and democracy. We would be treated more fairly in Zimbabwe.

That is very interesting. Can I bring that up at my appeal?

I appreciate that MUTS but I was more interested in the types of regimes we are now comparable with.

"countries such as Poland and Hungary have concluded that retrospective tax legislation violates the basic human rights guaranteed by their constitutions"

The following used to be true.

"A similar antipathy toward retrospective legislation also runs deep in the United Kingdom."
