As much faith and admiration as we all have in you DR, I'm afraid I have little faith that HMRC will not try some skullduggery to bypass this and just declare 'public interest' ...or that the tax tribunals will just decide that all these are the same, and reach the same judgement on all MTM cases without needing a hearing or our agreement

I hope I'm wrong!

My only concern/worry about getting more people over here is actually the sheer volume of messages that get posted. You really can't see the wood for the trees when looking for the updates with useful info. Even the Latest News page on the NTRT site is from 24th May. What I think you need is a thread with minimal updates (locked down to a few trusted posters) where you can just post the salient info newcomers can look through and then if they want to join the flamboyant discussion jump in here.

DR posts any important updates in the 1st post of this thread Solarfire. Go back to that for new information.

Personally I like hearing how people are getting on with their MPs etcetc. But I can understand those who would prefer important updates only.

I can understand some peoples frustration at some of the posts on this thread, we all want this to end with the correct result, will we get that who knows, some want facts, facts, facts.

I personally do get some comfort from some of the more witty posts TSBT in particular, I also, for some reason, enjoy reading some of the more negative posts once I have digested what has been written and deduce the authors point of view, in all thanks to all those that have posted keep it up, it does bring some comfort well to one member if not others. For sometime I thought I was all alone with this burden on my shoulders, these forums have proven otherwise, although many of us have not met and maybe will never do so, its been a pleasure having penpals.

We still have a long way to go, don't let the bu99ers get you down.... remember.... You will laugh an average of 18 times a day

Well I will seek a hearing and will NOT accept a test case judgement ever, unless it's based on the law that prevailed when the income in question was earnt. I believe that's our right and no HMRC tricks or scare tactics will prevent it.

On another subject: Anyone hear any news about when we'll get our ECHR hearing?

Are we still awaiting the decision of whether we can join the PWC submission ?

Your right Moira. It's a nice thing to sit down every evening and catch up with the news. At least getting amongst these parliamentary debates adds hard facts and progress to the forum opinons. It's all on again Monday, just get us some more air-time you supporting MPs. The frustrating thing in all this for me is why, with all the inconsistencies and obvious failings by HMRC, do they still seek to collect my money just to make an example out of me. "Retrospectively collect tax from every other legal scheme you've challenged you merchant bankers." Can't anyone stand up and quote Gauke's opinion last time round? Can they all just simply be worried about the repercussions if we overturn the law? It staggers me. But one always feels better after a post. Thank god for that at least.

We all know the answer (incompetency, perhaps) but it is literally killing us!

There's one thing to obey the law, as we did, but then find from a moral standpoint some feel it needs changing, going fwd. That should be us.

There's another thing to deliberately ignore the law, and do something contrary to it's intention. And that's sticking your partner on the govt. payroll and not declaring it. Then having to retrospectively reimburse the public purse for your deliberate flouting of the legislation. That's Jane Kennedy.

It's a wonder Mrs. Kennedy who don't share the same fate as your successor, Mr Timms.
