Their attitude makes me sick, I got a letter a few weeks back about the Equitable life fiasco of which I was a poor member, the panel recommended we get compensated to the tune of something like 4.5billion but cos public purse strings couldn't stretch to that we only get compo of 1.5billion for govt f**kups.
Well if its good for the goose its good for the gander, my purse strings cant afford your demands and given you've set the precedent I think 33p in the pound sounds good! The alternative, go F**k yourselves which is basically what us poor EL members have had to do!Comment

Message from Chairman NTRT
Originally posted by BrilloPad View PostHe is going to take it up with Gauke. He is concerned that as a member of the last Labour government Gauke will basically say that it was his fault - especially as he was on the finance committee that approved it.
It needs time to sink in for him - basically he has been misled by HMRC.
Thanks for your feedback BP. It is useful to know an MP was prepared to acknowledge he was hoodwinked into passing S58(4)
Will you make sure you update the notes on your members section of the NTRT website so that Whitehouse (NTRT PR consultants) can update their records.
Can we ask anyone who has contacted their MP to make sure they either PM DR or update their members comments boxComment

Originally posted by nevergiveup View PostExcellent! I've got a meeting with my Conservative MP on Friday. I think he's a new MP so may have a battle on my hands....
- it'll cost them too much (bankruptcy gains them nothing....and costs them money)
- it was always communicated that it didn't work (cobblers HMRC handbook said it did)
- we should go sue the provider if we weren't told (yeah I liked that gem! sue someone for the law changing in the future - nice)
- take suo moto settlement details as they are not being briefed about others getting advantageous settlement - i.e. different treatment of tax payers in same situation
- don't let him/her question you on why you dared use a tax planner in the first place - there is nothing illegal or amoral about tax planning, dont let them steer you onto that ground it's none of their business
- make sure you are clear on the difference between evasion and avoidance - the wording was used interchangeably by my muppet who was either pretending not to know the difference or really is a complete muppet.
Point out that if it was always illegal/didn't work then why not send a demand straight back with your first transparent and fully declared tax return? Took them over 3 years to demand anything from me.
Good luck - don't let them pass on a bunch of second hand bull.

Resorted to saying that yes it might seem hypocritical that the Tories were against the legislation before in power and now have changed their minds...Comment

Originally posted by OnYourBikeGB View PostAnd a very good point to raise with Labour MPs in general. Gauke is blaming them, even though they were kept in the dark and fed bulltulip. They won't take kindly to that. They just rubber stamped a huge bill, and now they have a chance to get their voice heard and to show how they feel about being misled by HMRC, something that Gauke seems prepared to let pass. In fact, it's him, not them, that is showing a contempt for the will of Parliament. What they did was from ignorance and being wilfully misled. What he has done is self-serving hypocrisy.Comment

Now that would be an interesting conversation.....Politicians are wonderfull people, as long as they stay away from things they don't understand, like working for a living!Comment
