Insurances - Offshore and Foreign Work

    Good afternoon.

Being in the process of setting up a Limited co, I am acutely aware I wish to possess the appropriate insurances.

I originally intended to use the PCG/PCG+ service, then using their recommended insurer to cover the business.

    The issue is:

I will be required to go offshore and/or to Northern Africa at times as part of the projects my Limited Co is scheduled to work upon. I can only see "Caunce O'Hara" even asking this question, and even then it only relates to offshore work on a platform, not workings in a foreign country.

Having looked at the broker "simplybusiness.co.uk" I can see plenty of cheap policies which could cover the PI and PL I require, but no mention of heading abroad and/or offshore work.

Has anybody been required to use such a specialised policy before, or any advice on whether it is better to just go direct to a specialist offshore insurance co? I am conscious of the varying costs of insurance and do not wish to pay through the nose for an overly inflated policy.

    Many thanks in advance.

I'm exactly in the same situation now: 80% of my time will be spent in the office and the rest on offshore installations - all for the same client.
Any information that would help me identifying best insurance would be appreciated Thanks!

Take a look at the PCG. They have an oil and engineering section so they'll probably have the insurance for those members.

Thanks. Had a quick look at PCG Startup Membership and it says Public Liability Insurance is only up to £1 million - in my case I need £5m so would have to look elsewhere.

Offshore cover can be a bit of a nightmare, as insurers are inherently averse to anything oil-rig related. However, in reality the likelihood of a Public Liability claim for a contractor is relatively slim. Still, premiums can be quite high.

To give you an indication, we do £5m Public Liability for £112.40, or £156.89 if manual work is involved.

You can say it to the whole class.
