As an aside, how often can you buy a new phone? Once a year, or less frequently?

Say you are developing a commercial smartphone app, they can't really quarrel with the need then.

PS Good excuse for a plug.

PPS As a phone, can't imagine why anyone bothers, or perhaps others don't need recharging every 2 days. My cheap little Samsung lasts for weeks.

        Top man!
Incidentally I did tell her to reply yes from the Pub. Shandy was ok. Bit diluted here and double the price down south. Bit use to it now though

          Hi
I just renewed my mobile contract for 2 years with Three.
Is it possible i can pay the direct debits from my business account and still keep contract in my name (director)?

(i use phone for mix of business and personal use)

You can get the DD taken from whatever account you want, but unless the contract is in the company name then you won't be able to claim the whole bill. You'll have to repay money into the company to cover the disallowed portion.

You are aware you are allowed "some" personal use of the phone if the phone is in the business's name right?

You are also aware that if you have loads of free minutes on your contact then in effect you, personally, will end up paying for the entire bill if you use these for business calls if the phone is in your name?

The amount of personal use isn't clearly defined but it will probably related to the tariff you are on. So if you have a load of free minutes and free texts included in the tariff and never go over those then you shouldn't personally have to pay for your personal use.

Though a question could arise why you are on that tariff but if like me you chose the tariff for the unlimited internet option then you can answer the question.

What is your business case for buying your employee(s) a phone at a particular frequency?

Thought I'd just post my query in this thread rather than start another unneccessary thread as it's somewhat related.

I asked o2 about transfer of ownership for my personal contract with them to my comnpany name. They said 1 of 2 ways would suffice.

                  1) Register a new account, get a business account and get the transfer of ownership pack sent out to me
                  2) Simply edit the details in your Personal details bit online to say the name of my limited company after my name ie:

                  John Doe
                  MyCo LTD
                  123 A Street
                  A Town
                  AB1 2CD

Would this be sufficient now to HMRC in terms of the contract now being with the company and not me. I wanted to keep the Consumer contract rather than the business one if possible, they said this way should be fine. Any thoughts?

And also I have the original receipt from when I upgraded my iPhone from around a year ago and I assume it is ok to sell/transfer this personal asset to the company at the cost specified on the receipt?

                    < more stuff>
Did you also ask them about changing the Direct Debit to your company account?

I suspect that if the investigation asked the question of whether this was a business or personal contract, the answer would be that it was a personal contract, so you can only claim the business calls as an expense.

Is the consumer contract better than the business one? The customer service from T-mobile as a business customer has been top-notch - the two occasions my phone broke, I had a new one despatched the same day.

You can sell it at any value you want. Whether HMRC would allow it would be a different matter. If you backdate the sale, then you might get away with charging the same cost. If not, then find out what it's worth these days and sell it at the current value.
