Office move - 24 month expenses reset?

    Okey dokey,
    I live in Oxfordshire.
Work 4 days a week at client office in Fleet St. central London and stay in a B&B / homestay type thing for 4 nights Sun-Wed in Herne Hill at the edge of zone 2 directly south - good for overland Thames Citylink service.

The end client is moving offices to Canary Wharf next year so I'll need to find new digs closer to there (probably Stratford way somewhere). This will add perhaps 30 - 60 minutes to my weekly drive to Oxfordshire - probably 30 minutes on Sun and maybe an hour on Thu evening.

What does the panel think....enough justification to reset the 24 month expenses clock?

    Ta

No. It's not a significantly different journey from the one you were already making.

WHS. London has been done to death. Even the HMRC examples site a London move as not meeting the criteria.

Hi if you take a look at this EIM32280 - Travel expenses: travel for necessary attendance: safeguards against abuse: changes to a workplace

and pay attention to the effect of your travel costs increasing if they do?

also the length of your journey will be a factor as you have mentioned.

But in London it is a nightmare for HMRC and the journey may not change that much at all.

Personally I think the variation between Fleet Steret and Canary Wharf journeys is sufficient to reset things. The journey is not substantially the same; even disregarding the fact you're changing your B&B location significantly, Canary Wharf is a lot further, in a different Zone and two tube lines (or the DLR if you're a real masochist) further away from Oxford. The West End, the City and Canary Wharf are, to all practical intents on purposes, three different locations. So I'd say you are clear to go back to square one - assuming you havn't got a 24+ month contract, of course...
