Another thing worth keeping an eye on is the comments in the India press on their Governments move. There are bound to be similar opinions held here, so we can develop our case with some degree of knowledge of how this might play out. Look out for he strong opinions either way. Can we adopt the ones that would back our position, can we counter the ones that would oppose us?Comment

What is Osborne up to?
His neck???
If only Parliament / Government had taken the necessary action we asked for on Section 58 all that time ago, none of this would be happening. Osborne would not look a tad daft on this, Vodafone would not be getting the Indian version of BN66 and 250,000 businesses would not be up in arms at what this means to the Indian and global economy.
Heck we tried to do this Country a favour, hate to say it, but we told you so. In reference to a signature of one of our fellows here but with a slant due to recent developments - "Vindaloo is a dish best served cold"Last edited by Tax_shouldnt_be_taxing; 7 April 2012, 21:08.Comment

Well done to everyone who is getting involved. This India story is a gift!
And I hate to say this, but to those who are still lurking in the shadows... what else do you need to possibly motivate you?!!!'Orwell's 1984 was supposed to be a warning, not an instruction manual'. -

All:
May I suggest that EVERYONE kindly clicks on the above website and writes a comment. This is a very serious and serendipitous event for us - we must capitalise on it now. When the FT sees how many readers responded, I suspect they will write again in the paper about it, and after all the FT is the world's leading financial newspaper; one of great influence.
Vodafone by the way is the FOURTH largest company in the UK. The fourth. And Osborne is supporting them against India's s58 equivalent. It's utterly disgraceful.
Thanks

FT done, twittered too
Come on everyone, the FT page does not have 3000 comments yet! Last time I looked, it was 16 or so. What a shocker for the editorial staff to come in Tuesday and see over one thousand comments! We can make this happen, only takes a minute. Get commenting...Lord Clyde in 1929: ‘No man is under the smallest obligation, moral or other, so to arrange his legal relations to his business or to his property as to enable the Revenue to put the largest possible shovel into his stores. The Revenue is not slow to take every advantage which is open to it under the taxing statutes for the purpose of depleting the taxpayer’s pocket. And the taxpayer is entitled to be astute to prevent, so far as he honestly can, the depletion of his means by the Revenue.’Comment

Written to the Treasury
Hi there everyone,
I have been writing to John Redwood for 3 years now. The latest most disappointing response was from one of his aides telling me that 'in general, he does not support retrospective legislation'. I'm not sure how 'general' this is but it seems like a standard response..... Frankly you either support it or you don't.
The response I have had back also states he has written to the treasury (again). I'm feeling that this is not good enough - but can someone advise what we want him to do other than write to the treasury?
Is parliamentary question time not a good forum? What else?
