The coppers will only assign a case handler if they feel there is a significant enough volume to warrant it... call them...

    Thanks Joelipol

If I call them, should I quote a reference number already created ?

When I was deciding between Tract (as my friend had been with them for years and had no problem) and Peak Performance Contracts (who my accountant recommended) there wasn't much of a difference on paper in terms of the bottom line but with Peak you have to meet an accountant first and there is more of a network around things before you sign up.

I have seen a lot of cowboys or ambulance chasers on forums and yahoo answers looking to get you in on sweet deals... come on, after being ripped off for a few months wages you expect us to phone up looking for you to quote us happy?

<mod>Link removed</mod> are the ones I have been recommended, I'm not going to ask for recommendations or pros/cons. I trust my accountant and they work with them so I take that into consideration when I make my decision.

Ultimately if you listen to what someone in a web forum tells you to do or signup without any due diligence you deserve to have your money taken from you. You don't go to buy a horse and only look at the saddle do you?

      Or do we....?

Feeling a bit like Mr Pot here...

          Please remain civil

          Hi All,

I know what a nightmare situation this is for those of you affected but please do not post personal address or telephone information on the thread. If you want to use the forum to contact other affected parties via PM then that is fine. Anything more than this will be deleted and your accounts removed. I have already warned some of you via PM. If this thread is used for anything more than offering support and to help put contractors affected by this in touch with each other then it will be locked.

          Kind regards

          Admin

We are still getting lots of calls coming in from contractors in this situation and some of the comments are a bit alarming.

"Tract told me I would take home a lot more than that!"

Well of course they did, because they were dodgy and have now done a bunk.

It is worth reading up on this and other forums as to what an umbrella company actually is. Please make sure you are protecting yourself.

Once bitten twice shy and all that.

Just for the record we also work with accountants and chartered tax advisers and can put potential clients in touch with them, but I will reiterate that whatever you guys do make sure you do exhaustive due diligence on any provider you may settle on, there are probably a few cowboys out there like any industry

I genuinely hope that everyone affected by Tract gets some redress whatever form that takes , but I would caution against making any direct accusations against the management in case you risk damaging any future ( hopefully ) legal proceedings. I would suggest you all stick to PM to discuss what allegedly happened, we all have our suspicions but until proven it might make it harder to prove if too much is in the public domain

I forgot about the URL posting thing, apologies. I am not promoting these guys as the solution to anyone without them taking their own time to look them up and check them out.

There is quite a bit of action going on at the yahoo answers post you can google for it or check the link earlier on, <mod snip> (possibly) has replied there saying she knew nothing about the closure...

Once we have enough people aware of this I vote we freeze their assets by issuing a winding up notice/order to the local court. It costs a couple of hundred quid and I know a bunch of rottweiler insolvency accountants in Glasgow who are very good at it, if anyone would like to continue down this route we need to give them 48 hours notice but as they don't have any fixed address I think we can go straight to the court. We may not get our money back but any assets in the bank accounts (like my last months wages that went in on monday) will be poinded.

Don't worry about it - that wasn't aimed solely at you We removed the posts from the person you mentioned and another poster as it seems they were in disagreement about who was responsible! I expect Yahoo to pull that thread or parts of it in case that affects any court proceeding brought against these individuals. As I said, the person posting here and on the Yahoo thread to plead their innocence could be spinning you a line. Ignore these distractions and crack on with the official proceedings IMO.

Good luck, speed is of the essence so move as fast as you can!
