I agree with Northernlad. I too use SJD and I find their spreadsheet a very useful tool. It takes maybe 15 minutes a week to fill in and I can see everything in one place including, current bank reconciliation, VAT payable and the amounts owed by the company to me for expenses. I have also found SJD very helpful and keen to answer any question I could throw at them and that was true before I was even their client. -

Its not out job to complete "fancy spreadsheets". With respet you have no grasp of what an accountant does. Why not try doing your accounts and CT yourself this year - remembering to comply with all the regulations and the Companies Act, while at the same time keeping your arranging affairs in such a way that you are paid in the most tax efficient way, and keeping your paperwork in order - and once you've made an @rse of that come back and ask "What else do they need to do?".
And I wouldn't take you on as a client, because you clearly place no value on the service you get from an accountant and probably have no grasp of what we do for you. Also, I'm not a book-keeper so sifitng through your receipts every month wouldn't be a very good use of my time.Comment

And just my two penneth. I used a local accountant and he was bloody rubbish. He had no idea how contractors worked so didn't help me at all, was too busy with bigger clients to be bothered and made a right balls up. I now use SJD who yes, make me fill in a huge spreadsheet but it is all automated so just need to do the basics. Takes me a couple of mins a day tops and I am well aware of where every penny of my money is at. After doing the dump the paperwork on an accountant I much prefer the SJD method.
As above I used to do 90% of all accounting to my old company, but when I created a new company I decided I didn't want the headache and let someone else deals with it, so I knwo all the basics, thanks for your 2p though

btw I place a huuuuuge value on my old accountant, he was amazing, always happy to give advise, always happy to do any extra work last minute, made my life really easy. He is worth his weight in gold.Comment
