Should my contract state the agreed rate plus vat. I'm operating through my ltd company but contract only states the daily rate with no mention of vat. Obviously ill be adding on 20% to the fee in my invoices. What's the norm ?

The norm is to quote ex-VAT and then add VAT on - I was pleasantly surprised on my first contract that it was an ex-VAT rate I'd agreedOriginally posted by jungleboogy View PostShould my contract state the agreed rate plus vat. That said, I'd make sure that the agency are expecting this - if not, someone is in for a nasty shock when you submit your first invoice. -
To add VAT if you're VAT registered, or not to if you're not. Which is why contracts don't need to mention VAT.Originally posted by jungleboogy View PostShould my contract state the agreed rate plus vat. Most agencies will be VAT registered so it won't make any difference to them.Originally posted by TheFaQQer View PostThe norm is to quote ex-VAT and then add VAT on - I was pleasantly surprised on my first contract that it was an ex-VAT rate I'd agreed

I just signed a new contract which had my hourly rate quoted. But to avoid confusion and misery i just added next to it "+ UK VAT" and signed that as a change.
At least it shows that the contract is subject to VAT, just in case an agent tries to pull a fast one.Comment

had a similar issue i posted last week but my agency operates a self bill process, initially feared i'd be viable for the VAT for the last 8 months of my contract but have issued an invoice to my agency for the outstanding VAT and instructed them to include VAT from now on
so all should be fineComment
