Another Consulting Overseas / Sandfield victim

I've seen some threads dating back to 2005, but I just got my letter from HMRC saying I owe $000's in tax from 2003/2004 tax years.
I think both Consulting Overseas and Sandfield have liquidated in 2008 ish.
what advise can anyone give me?

My advice would be to go and make an appointment to see an accountant or tax advisor, then sit down with them (or call them) and go through the entire story. They will be able to advise on your next steps along with your legal obligations & rights.

Additional to taking legal advice, one of the ex directors of CO contributes to another contractor site - shout99.com.

On the right hand side you should find Crawford Temple. Click on his profile and his email is listed. No guarantee he will help of course.......but it may be worth a go.

Do they add interest and penalties to your supposed outstanding tax?

In % terms, how much above the outstanding tax are the interest and penalties?

It's early days for me, the investigator handling my "case" is not at work so I haven't been given any breakdown. I've been out of the UK for 6 years so I'm not really up to speed on all history of how these companies have been targeted.
Any background you can share, please do!

HMRC charge six monthly 5% penalties as well as general interest. I'm in tax bother too!

Hi, HMRC said that they suspend or freeze the outstanding amount if you dispute the amount with the Tax investigator. Tax investigator is still trying to decide what rate they think I should have paid tax at.
Is your "bother" from Consulting Overseas too?
My expectation is that if we (me and tax man) settle on an amount, then I won't be paying any penalties or interest since I've only learned about this 4 days ago.
                Are you disputing it?
                Cheers

                  Contact for Consulting Overseas

You can also contact Wayne Barnett. He is still working for Consulting Overseas clients apparently, and the legal firm is still engaged

I thought HMRC could only claim tax from up to six years from when the return for that year would have bee made unless there was fraud involved. So for the 2003/2004 tax year they would not be able to do anything after Jan 31st 2011. Is this correct or have I made a mistake?
